Like many other Canadian regions, liveability is very important to homebuyers in the Halifax-Dartmouth region. Alongside factors such as green space and transit, a sense of belonging, peace of mind, and diversity are the top liveability factors considered when buying a home. They contribute to a higher quality of life, making neighbourhoods which offer safety, sense of belonging and strong social connections more attractive to buyers.

The most desirable neighbourhood in the Halifax region is Woodlawn/Creighton Park. With a price point typically below $600k, the neighbourhood is also conveniently located near urban amenities and the homes offer character and opportunities to renovate.

Demand in the region is primarily being driven by suburban families/move-up buyers, first-time homebuyers and New Canadians.

  • South End

Advice to Homebuyers:

Homebuyers should understand market trends and look into up-and-coming neighbourhoods. Many properties are still very competitive, and more areas are seeing significant growth and development, making them attractive for both investment and quality of life,” says Ryan Hartlen, Broker of Record at RE/MAX Nova, based in Halifax.

He adds, “The region has faced low inventory levels for a few years now, but this slowly increasing. It is important for buyers be prepared, and to act quickly when they find a suitable property. Keeping an eye on new developments are important as they often offer modern amenities and community features.”

Finally, “With rising home prices, it is essential for homebuyers set realistic budgets. Factor in not just the purchase price, but the additional costs as well such as closing costs, property taxes, etc.
